Carmenita Rd Interchange Project – Week of May 31, 2015

On Friday night, May 29, crews will shift lanes of traffic along northbound I-5, onto newly completed pavement in the center of the freeway; this will require a full nighttime closure of the northbound I-5 freeway. Northbound I-5 will be closed from Valley View Avenue to Rosecrans Avenue, from 11:59 p.m. Friday, May 29 to 7:01 a.m. Saturday, May 30. Motorists will be directed to exit the freeway at Valley View Avenue, turn left on Firestone Boulevard, turn right on Valley View Avenue, turn left on Rosecrans Avenue and continue west to get back on northbound I-5. On Monday, June 1 crews will begin daytime pavement removal and roadway excavation activity on Marquardt  Avenue and Freeway Drive. Please be advised, this work may be loud and disruptive due to concrete demolition activity and construction equipment noise.

During the week of May 31, nightly full freeway closures are scheduled (Sunday through Thursday) so crews can remove falsework from the Carmenita Road bridge. Southbound I-5 will be closed (Rosecrans Avenue to Valley View Avenue) nightly between 11:59 p.m. and 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. For more information regarding all upcoming closures, including recommended detour routes, please visit the project Google map.
In late-June 2015 (tentative), crews will shift  traffic from the existing Carmenita Road bridge to the new bridge which is being built alongside the original structure. The traffic shift will include changes to the traffic pattern at Firestone Boulevard and Carmenita Road, as well as temporary reconfiguration of the northbound I-5 Carmenita Road off-ramp. More detailed information will be provided before the work is conducted.
