The following nighttime closures are planned Thursday, June 16 and Friday, June 17, as crews prepare to open the full width of the Carmenita Road bridge, the permanent northbound on and off-ramps at Carmenita Road, and the intersection at Excelsior Drive and Carmenita Road:
- Northbound I-5 Freeway will be completely closed between Carmenita Road and Rosecrans Avenue, between 11:59 p.m. Thursday, June 16 and 5 a.m. Friday, June 17 and from 11:59 p.m. June 17 and 7 a.m., Saturday, June 18. The closure area is shown on the map below in red; motorists will be directed to follow the detour route highlighted in blue.
- Westbound SR-91 Connector to Northbound I-5 freeway will be closed from 11 p.m. Thursday, June 16 to 5 a.m. Friday, June 17 and from 11 p.m. Friday, June 17 to 7 a.m. Saturday, June 18. Motorists will be directed to continue westbound on the SR-91 and take the northbound I-605 connector to reconnect with northbound I-5. More information will be provided on the project Google map.
- Carmenita Road, between Alondra Boulevard and Pumice Street, will be closed nightly between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., Thursday, June 16 and Friday, June 17. Motorists can use Shoemaker Avenue or Marquardt Avenue as alternate routes.

Crews plan to open the full width of the Carmenita Road bridge, the new permanent northbound on- and off-ramps at Carmenita Road, and the intersection of Excelsior Drive and Carmenita Road by 9 a.m. Saturday, June 18.
The northbound I-5 Carmenita Road off-ramp was temporarily reconfigured while crews are finishing construction of the new permanent off-ramp (which is expected to open by Saturday morning, June 18). Until then, motorists that exit northbound I-5 at Carmenita Road will be directed to turn right on Excelsior Drive, left on Spring Avenue and left on Pumice Street to access Carmenita Road. Click the map below for more information regarding the new off-ramp configuration.
As a result of the traffic shift onto the new Carmenita Road bridge, the traffic pattern at the intersection of Firestone Boulevard and Carmenita Road has been temporarily detoured; motorists exiting southbound I-5 at Carmenita Road will only be permitted to continue straight on Firestone Boulevard.
The temporary southbound I-5 on-ramp at Carmenita Road has closed permanently and the new on-ramp is expected to open later this year. In the interim, motorists will be directed to continue on Firestone Boulevard, turn left on Alondra Boulevard, then turn right on Valley View Avenue to access the southbound I-5 on-ramp.
