During the week of June 7, nightly full freeway closures are scheduled (Sunday through Thursday) so crews can remove falsework from the Carmenita Road bridge. Southbound I-5 will be closed (Rosecrans Avenue to Valley View Avenue) nightly between 11:59 p.m. and 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. In late-June 2015, crews will shift traffic from the existing Carmenita Road bridge, to the new bridge which is being built alongside the original structure. The traffic shift will include temporary changes to the traffic pattern at the intersection of Firestone Boulevard and Carmenita Road. In addition the intersection of Excelsior Drive and Carmenita Road will be temporarily closed during construction once the new Carmenita bridge is open to traffic; also the northbound I-5 Carmenita Road off-ramp traffic will be detoured to turn right on Excelsior, left on Spring and left on Pumice to access Carmenita Road. The demolition of the old Carmenita bridge will follow in July after traffic is switched onto the new bridge. More detailed information will be provided before the work is conducted.
