FLORENCE AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT – Week of February 7, 2016

As early as Monday, Feb. 8 crews may begin mobilizing equipment to begin pile driving activity adjacent to the Florence Avenue interchange. This work will take place within the contractor’s yard along northbound I-5, just south of the Florence Avenue bridge. Pile driving activity will be conducted weekdays (Monday through Friday) between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.; once work begins the operation will be ongoing for approximately four to six weeks. This activity is needed as crews construct the foundation for the new Florence Avenue bridge, as well as the new retaining walls, soundwalls and freeway on- and off-ramps. Please be advised, this work may be loud and disruptive due to equipment noise, vibration and pounding related to pile driving activity.

Crews are working to form soundwalls along northbound and southbound I-5. Roadway excavation is underway behind k-rail and the construction fencing, along Mondon Avenue between Cecilia Street and Buell Street. Over the next few weeks crews will be pouring concrete for the new soundwall adjacent to southbound I-5. This work will be conducted weekdays (Monday through Friday) between 6:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. and will be ongoing for approximately the next two to three weeks.

Shoring activity is still underway along the Orr and Day railroad bridge, which passes underneath the I-5 freeway. This work will take place weekdays (Monday through Friday) between 6:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. and will be ongoing for approximately the next three to four weeks.
