FLORENCE AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT – Week of May 14, 2017

Crews have resumed work to remove the remaining portion of the sound wall along the northbound I-5 Florence Avenue on-ramp, adjacent to Longworth Avenue. The sound wall removal operation will take approximately two weeks to complete. As soon as the old wall is removed, a privacy fence will be installed along northbound I-5 freeway and crews will then immediately begin work to construct the new sound wall. This construction activity will be conducted weekdays, between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Please be advised, this work may be loud and disruptive due to concrete demolition and removal, equipment noise, sound wall construction activities and truck back-up alarms.

Crews have resumed drilling CIDH (cast in drilled hole) piles along southbound I-5 for the new Florence Avenue bridge bent; this work is taking place weekdays between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. and will be ongoing for approximately two to three weeks.

Pile driving activity will be ongoing intermittently for approximately the next four to six weeks, weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., along southbound I-5. While pile driving activity will only be performed during the day, night crews may move equipment to reposition the pile driving rig within the work area. Please be advised this work may be loud and disruptive due to equipment noise, construction lighting (when equipment is moved at night), and vibration and pounding related to pile driving activity.

On Monday night, May 15 southbound I-5 will be closed from I-605 to Norwalk Boulevard, as well as the northbound and southbound I-605 connectors to southbound I-5, so crews can work in the center median to remove shoring plates. Tuesday night, May 16 through Thursday night, May 18, northbound I-5 will be closed from Norwalk Blvd. to I-605, so crews can begin constructing falsework for the new half of the Florence Avenue bridge.
