This week crews will resume work to remove the remaining portion of the sound wall along the northbound I-5 Florence Avenue on-ramp, adjacent to Longworth Avenue. The sound wall removal operation will take approximately two weeks to complete. As soon as the old wall is removed, crews will immediately begin work to construct the new sound wall. This construction activity will be conducted weekdays, between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Please be advised, this work may be loud and disruptive due to concrete demolition and removal, equipment noise, sound wall construction activities and truck back-up alarms.

On Wednesday, May 10 crews resume drilling CIDH (cast in drilled hole) piles along southbound I-5 for the new Florence Avenue bridge bent; this work will take place weekdays between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. and will be ongoing intermittently for approximately two to three weeks.

Pile driving activity will be ongoing intermittently for approximately the next four to six weeks, weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., along southbound I-5. While pile driving activity will only be performed during the day, night crews may move equipment to reposition the pile driving rig within the work area. Please be advised this work may be loud and disruptive due to equipment noise, construction lighting (when equipment is moved at night), and vibration and pounding related to pile driving activity.

Crews will be working at night in the center median of the freeway to strip the bridge column forms. Lanes on northbound I-5 at Florence Avenue will be reduced from 11 p.m. Tuesday, May 9 to 5 a.m. Wednesday, May 10. At least one lane on northbound I-5 will remain open, while this work is conducted.

On Thursday night, May 11 crews will close northbound I-5 in order to remove shoring plates from the work area. Northbound I-5 will be closed, from Norwalk Boulevard to I-605, from 11:59 p.m. Thursday, May 11 until 5 a.m. Friday, May 12. Motorists will be detoured to exit northbound I-5 at Norwalk Boulevard off-ramp; head west on Adoree Street, west on Imperial Highway, then west on Firestone Boulevard to northbound I-605 on-ramp. Transition from northbound I-605 back onto northbound I-5. Visit the project Google map for more information.
