Crews are constructing numerous elements of the I-5 HOV (Carpool Lanes) Widening and Interchange Improvements Project between Magnolia Blvd and Buena Vista Street in Burbank. The new lanes are scheduled to open this year. Work being done now includes grinding pavement, sealing joints, constructing the drainage, electrical and irrigation systems, and other work. Here are some pictures of the progress during April and May 2022.

Below: Crews installed this new traffic signal at the southwest corner of the intersection of Victory Place and Old Empire Avenue, next to the new I-5 Empire Avenue interchange. In these photos, the traffic signal has not been activated so the signal heads are turned away from traffic.

Crews are continuing to work on the HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle, or carpool) lanes in both directions in the I-5 median between Magnolia Blvd and Buena Vista Street. The new lanes are scheduled to open this year. This view is facing south at Burbank Blvd. The red lines and arrow have been added to indicate the median area where the carpool lanes are being constructed.
