I-5 Construction Advisory – Magnolia Blvd to Buena Vista Street, July 9-16, 2021

➤ Construction Activities

I-5 at Burbank Boulevard: Crews are constructing the Burbank Boulevard Bridge. Some work occurs at night.

I-5 between Empire Avenue and Cohasset Street: Crews are constructing the irrigation system.

➤ Closures & Detours

FULL CLOSURE of all lanes on I-5 at night, July 14-15

  • All lanes on Southbound I-5 will be closed from Buena Vista Street to Burbank Boulevard from 11 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2021, to 5 a.m. Thursday, July 15.
  • All lanes on Northbound I-5 will be closed from Alameda Avenue to Burbank Boulevard from 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2021, to 5 a.m. Thursday, July 15.
To avoid delays, motorists are advised to use another freeway route such as State Route 134 (Ventura Freeway) and State Route 170 (Hollywood Freeway), as shown in the map below.
 

During this complete freeway closure, detours will be posted for motorists.

  • All traffic on Northbound I-5 will exit at Alameda Avenue.
  • All traffic on Southbound I-5 will exit at Buena Vista Street.

In addition, multiple ramps and freeway connectors will be closed, starting as early as 9 p.m. Wednesday and opening by 6 a.m. Thursday EXCEPT where noted below.

Northbound I-5 ramps or connectors will be closed at the following locations with detours posted: (listed in order from south to north)

  • Westbound State Route 134 connector to Northbound I-5; also the Fairmont Avenue and San Fernando Road on-ramps to Westbound SR-134
  • Eastbound Western Avenue on-ramp to Northbound I-5
  • Westbound Western Avenue on-ramp to Northbound I-5
  • Eastbound Alameda Avenue on-ramp to Northbound I-5
  • Westbound Alameda Avenue on-ramp to Northbound I-5
  • Northbound I-5 on-ramp at Orange Grove/Olive Avenue (this on-ramp will remain closed until approximately 1 p.m. Thursday; time is subject to change)
  • Northbound I-5 off-ramp at Burbank Boulevard (this exit will remain closed until approximately 1 p.m. Thursday; time is subject to change)

Southbound I-5 ramps will be closed at the following locations with detours posted: (listed in order from north to south)

  • Hollywood Way on-ramp to Southbound I-5
  • Buena Vista Street on-ramp to Southbound I-5
  • Empire Avenue on-ramp to Southbound I-5
  • SPECIAL NOTICE: The Southbound I-5 Burbank Blvd off-ramp may remain closed after 5 a.m. Thursday due to construction vehicles operating there. If necessary, the off-ramp may remain closed until approximately 1 p.m.; the time is subject to change.

⇒  These closures are for bridge construction over I-5 at Burbank Boulevard.

⇒  One or two lanes on I-5 may be closed as early as 9 p.m. Wednesday.

DETOUR ROUTES:

The following I-5 ramp closures and detours are planned between Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at 9 p.m. and Thursday, July 15, 2021, at 6 a.m. (some ramps will open by 5 a.m.)

  1. Westbound SR-134 connector to Northbound I-5 closed

If westbound on SR-134:

Continue west to SR-170; right (north) on SR-170 to I-5.

  1. Northbound I-5 on-ramps at Western Avenue closed

If eastbound on Western Avenue:

Continue east on Western Avenue; left on Glenoaks Blvd; then either: (1) left on Buena Vista St; right on the NB I-5 on-ramp, OR (2) left on Hollywood Way; right on the NB I-5 on-ramp.

If westbound on Western Avenue:

Continue west on Western Avenue; right on Victory Blvd; right on Magnolia Blvd; left on Glenoaks Blvd; then either: (1) left on Buena Vista St; right on the NB I-5 on-ramp, OR (2) left on Hollywood Way; right on the NB I-5 on-ramp.

  1. Northbound I-5 on-ramps at Alameda Avenue closed

If eastbound on Alameda Avenue:

Continue east on Alameda Avenue; left on Glenoaks Blvd; then either: (1) left on Buena Vista St; right on the NB I-5 on-ramp, OR (2) left on Hollywood Way; right on the NB I-5 on-ramp.

If westbound on Alameda Avenue:

Continue west on Alameda Avenue; right on Victory Blvd; right on Magnolia Blvd; left on Glenoaks Blvd; Glenoaks Blvd; then either: (1) left on Buena Vista St; right on the NB I-5 on-ramp, OR (2) left on Hollywood Way; right on the NB I-5 on-ramp.

  1. Northbound I-5 on-ramp at Orange Grove Ave/Olive Ave closed

If southbound on First Street:

Continue south on First Street; left on Olive Ave; left on Third Street; left on Burbank Blvd; right on San Fernando Blvd; right on NB I-5 on ramp at Empire Ave/San Fernando Blvd

If northbound on First Street:

Continue north on First Street; right on Magnolia Blvd; left on Third Street; left on Burbank Blvd; right on San Fernando Blvd; right on NB I-5 on ramp at Empire Ave/San Fernando Blvd

  1. Southbound I-5 on-ramp at Hollywood Way closed

If northbound on Hollywood Way:

Continue north on Hollywood Way; right on Glenoaks Blvd; right on Alameda Ave; right on SB I-5 on ramp.

If southbound on Hollywood Way:

Continue south on Hollywood Way; right on Riverside Drive; right on EB SR-134 on ramp; east on SR-134 to SB I-5.

  1. Southbound I-5 on-ramp at Buena Vista Street closed

If northbound on San Fernando Blvd:

Continue north on San Fernando Blvd; turn right on the loop connector to Hollywood Way southbound; right on Riverside Drive; right on EB SR-134 on ramp; east on SR-134 to SB I-5.

If southbound on San Fernando Blvd:

Continue south on San Fernando Blvd; left on Buena Vista Street; right on Glenoaks Blvd; right on Alameda Ave; right on SB I-5 on ramp.

  1. Southbound I-5 on-ramp at Empire Avenue closed

If westbound on Empire Avenue:

Continue west on Empire Avenue; right on Lincoln Street; right on Victory Place (and continue on Victory Blvd); left on Alameda Ave; right on SB I-5 on ramp.

If eastbound on Empire Avenue:

Continue east on Empire Avenue and San Fernando Blvd; left on Amherst Drive; right on Glenoaks Blvd; right on Alameda Ave; right on SB I-5 on ramp.

 

(This is the end of the list of closures on the nights of July 14-15. The following are regular ongoing closure advisories for this I-5 project.)

Northbound and Southbound I-5 Lane Closures: Intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., at times reducing I-5 to one or two lanes in either direction.

Long-term I-5 Ramp Closures at Burbank Boulevard: Long-term or permanent ramp closures are in effect at some on-ramps and off-ramps at Burbank Boulevard. Detours are posted. Only the following ramps at Burbank Boulevard are open, and they may be closed at times with a detour posted:

  • The Northbound I-5 off-ramp to Eastbound Burbank Boulevard — Vehicles exiting I-5 must turn right and go east on Burbank Boulevard to San Fernando Boulevard. At times, this ramp may be closed due to construction, with a detour posted. 
  • The Southbound I-5 off-ramp to Westbound Burbank Boulevard — Vehicles exiting I-5 must turn right and go west on Burbank Boulevard to the intersection at Victory Boulevard. At times, this ramp may be closed due to construction, with a detour posted. 

Long-term Closure of Burbank Boulevard at I-5: Burbank Boulevard is closed to through traffic in both directions between San Fernando Boulevard and Front Street. Detours are posted.

On- and Off-Ramp Closures and Street Lane Closures: Intermittent on- and off-ramp closures and street lane closures on San Fernando Boulevard, Burbank Boulevard and Buena Vista Street, either during the day or at night. Detours are posted.
