I-5 NORTH Construction Advisory – SR-134 to Buena Vista Street, September 18-25, 2020

Work will occur during daytime hours unless otherwise noted. The schedule is weather-permitting and subject to change. All dates and times are subject to change.

Construction Activities

State Route 134 (Ventura Freeway) to Magnolia Boulevard

Southbound I-5 at Verdugo Avenue: Crews will construct new pavement on the Southbound I-5 Verdugo Avenue off-ramp and on-ramp, and on Front Street near the ramps. This work will occur during the daytime and at night.

Magnolia Boulevard to Buena Vista Street

I-5 at Burbank Boulevard: Crews are constructing retaining walls. Some work may occur at night.

I-5 between Burbank Boulevard and Buena Vista Street: Crews are constructing the drainage system in the median.

Closures & Detours

State Route 134 (Ventura Freeway) to Magnolia Boulevard

Southbound I-5 Ramp Closures at Verdugo Avenue; and Lanes Reduced on Front Street:  The Southbound I-5 Verdugo Avenue off-ramp and on-ramp are scheduled to be closed continuously for 55 hours, from 10 p.m. Friday, September 25, until 5 a.m. Monday, September 28, for construction. Detours are provided. The schedule is weather-permitting and subject to change. Please note, this location is near the Downtown Burbank Metrolink Station. Please allow extra time for travel to or from the station using the detour provided. See map below.

Also, during the same 55-hour period, lanes will be reduced on Front Street near the I-5 ramps, resulting in brief delays for traffic going to the Downtown Burbank Metrolink Station at 201 N. Front Street, and nearby businesses. Please allow extra time for travel to and from the station.

In addition, the Southbound I-5 Verdugo Avenue off-ramp and on-ramp will be closed Monday night, September 28 and, if needed, on Tuesday night, September 29, starting at 10 p.m. each night and reopening by 5 a.m. on each of the following days, due to pavement work on Front Street as described in the next entry, below. Detours will be provided. The schedule is weather-permitting and subject to change. 

Front Street and Verdugo Avenue street closures:  Front Street near the Southbound I-5 off-and-on ramps, and Verdugo Avenue between San Fernando Boulevard and Front Street, will be closed to traffic on Monday night, September 28 and, if needed, on Tuesday night, September 29, for pavement work on Front Street, with detours provided for traffic going to the Downtown Burbank Metrolink Station, 201 N. Front Street.  Please allow extra time for travel to and from the station. The pavement work is scheduled between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monday night (and, if needed, Tuesday night) on Front Street between Olive Avenue and Verdugo Avenue. The schedule is weather-permitting and subject to change.

Magnolia Boulevard to Buena Vista Street

Long-term I-5 Ramp Closures at Burbank Boulevard: Long-term or permanent ramp closures are in effect at some on-ramps and off-ramps at Burbank Boulevard. Detours are posted. Only the following ramps at Burbank Boulevard are OPEN:

  • The Northbound I-5 off-ramp to Eastbound Burbank Boulevard — Vehicles exiting I-5 must turn right and go east on Burbank Boulevard to San Fernando Boulevard. This ramp may be closed at times due to construction; a detour is provided.
  • The Southbound I-5 off-ramp to Westbound Burbank Boulevard — Vehicles exiting I-5 must turn right and go west on Burbank Boulevard to the intersection at Victory Boulevard. This ramp may be closed at times due to construction; a detour is provided.

Long-term Closure of Burbank Boulevard at I-5: Burbank Boulevard is closed to through traffic in both directions between San Fernando Boulevard and Front Street until mid-2021. Detours are posted.

Northbound and Southbound I-5 Lane Closures: Intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., at times reducing I-5 to one or two lanes in either direction.

On- and Off-Ramp Closures and Lane Closures:  Intermittent on- and off-ramp closures and lane closures at Buena Vista Street, Empire Avenue, San Fernando Boulevard and Burbank Boulevard from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Detours are posted.
