This week crews began work on Union Street, between San Antonio Drive and Paddison Avenue, to complete the planned roadway improvements as part of the I-5 Improvement project. Union Street is being widened, sidewalks will be reconstructed and the street will become a cul-de-sac adjacent to San Antonio Drive. Access for local residents will be maintained at all times.
Crews are preparing to shift the southbound I-5 lanes of traffic (between Pioneer Boulevard and the Silverbow Avenue pedestrian bridge), onto new pavement along the widened, outside portion of the freeway. This traffic shift is scheduled to take place on Thursday night, July 9. In order to complete this shift, the southbound I-5 will be closed between Imperial Highway and Rosecrans Avenue. Motorists will be detoured to exit southbound I-5 at Imperial Highway and turn right, turn left on Pioneer Boulevard, turn left on Rosecrans Avenue and proceed straight to take the Rosecrans Avenue on-ramp to southbound I-5. More information will be provided once the schedule for this work is confirmed.
Construction activity is ongoing with several sound walls along the northbound and southbound I-5. In addition, work continues on the frontage roads along the northbound I-5 (Adoree Street) and southbound I-5 (Southbound Frontage Road). Adoree Street is temporarily closed between Norwalk Boulevard and Kalnor Avenue; access will be maintained for local residents. Adoree Street will not be accessible from Norwalk Boulevard.
