Norwalk Boulevard will be closed to through traffic underneath the I-5 freeway, Thursday night, June 4, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. All freeway on and off-ramps on Norwalk Boulevard / San Antonio Drive will remain open during this work, however there will be no access underneath the I-5 freeway. From Norwalk Boulevard, motorists who wish to get on southbound I-5 will be detoured to turn right on Imperial Highway, left on Pioneer Boulevard, left on Firestone Boulevard, and left on San Antonio Drive to access the southbound I-5 freeway on-ramp. From San Antonio Drive, motorists who wish to get on northbound I-5 will be detoured to turn left on Firestone Boulevard, right on Pioneer Boulevard, right on Imperial Highway, then right on Norwalk Boulevard to access the northbound I-5 freeway on-ramp.
Crews are preparing to shift the southbound I-5 lanes of traffic (between Pioneer Boulevard and the Silverbow Avenue pedestrian bridge), onto new pavement along the widened, outside portion of the freeway. This traffic shift is tentatively scheduled to take place in late June 2015. Additional information will be provided once this work is scheduled.
Construction activity is ongoing with several sound walls along the northbound and southbound I-5. In addition, work continues on the frontage roads along the northbound I-5 (Adoree Street) and southbound I-5 (Southbound Frontage Road). The week of June 8, crews will temporarily close Adoree Street between Norwalk Boulevard and Kalnor Avenue; access will be maintained for local residents. Adoree Street will not be accessible from Norwalk Boulevard.
