VALLEY VIEW AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT – April 2, 2017

Crews will be restriping a portion of the freeway. This work will require the full closure of the northbound I-5 freeway, between Artesia Boulevard and Alondra Boulevard; lanes on southbound I-5 will also be reduced, but at least one lane will remain open. Access to I-5 from the westbound SR-91 and southbound I-605 will also be limited. Valley View Avenue over I-5 will remain open to traffic. Specific closure times and recommended detour routes are outlined below as well as on the Google project map below.

  • Northbound I-5 will be closed from midnight to 5 a.m., Monday, April 3
DETOUR (shown on map below in blue): Exit northbound I-5 at Artesia Blvd., continue straight through the intersection onto N. Firestone Blvd., right on Trojan Way, left on Alondra Blvd., left on Freeway Dr. to access the northbound I-5 on-ramp.

  • Westbound SR-91 to Northbound I-5 will be closed from 11 p.m. Sunday, April 2 to 5 a.m. Monday, April 3
    DETOUR:
Motorists will be directed to continue on westbound SR-91, transition onto northbound I-605, then back onto northbound I-5.
  • Southbound I-5 freeway lanes will be closed from 12:01 a.m. to 4 a.m. on Monday, April 3
DETOUR: No detour route needed; at least one lane will remain open on southbound I-5 between Alondra Blvd. and Artesia Blvd.

The northbound I-5 on-ramp at Freeway Drive is set to close permanently in the coming weeks. Portable changeable message signs will be placed in the area two weeks in advance of the closure. Once this ramp closes, motorists will be detoured to proceed west on Alondra Boulevard, then north on Carmenita Road to access the northbound I-5 on-ramp. Heavy traffic and delays in the area are expected. Motorists are urged to use alternative routes whenever possible.  The closure area is shown in red on the map below; the detour route is shown in green.

Freeway Drive under the Valley View bridge has been closed to through traffic and clearing and grubbing operations are ongoing.

Multiple utility relocations are ongoing throughout the construction site. There will be intermittent lane reductions on both N. Firestone Boulevard and S. Firestone Boulevard. Work will be performed Monday through Friday.

A portion of S. Firestone Boulevard at Coyote Creek channel is now closed for utility relocation for a period of four to six months. Work will be conducted weekdays between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. Businesses along Firestone Boulevard will remain open and detour signs will be posted.

Please visit the project Google map for detailed detour information regarding these closures, or view below.
