VALLEY VIEW AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT – October 30, 2016

Next month construction will begin on the Valley View Avenue Interchange Project, which will add a High Occupancy Vehicle and mixed-flow lane in each direction along approximately one and a half miles of I-5 at Valley View Avenue, from Artesia Boulevard undercrossing to North Fork Coyote Creek. The project extends through the cities of Buena Park, La Mirada, Cerritos, and Santa Fe Springs.

Three bridges will be reconstructed: the Valley View Avenue Bridge at I-5, the North Firestone Boulevard Bridge over Coyote Creek, and the I-5 freeway bridge at Coyote Creek. Lanes will be kept open on the Valley View Avenue Bridge during construction. There will also be improvements to the interchange at Valley View Avenue and adjacent frontage roads. The new bridge will include a railroad overpass.

As part of this work, Chevron Pipeline Company and Crimson Pipeline are relocating approximately 700 feet of the existing pipeline corridor. New Cast in Drilled Hole piles will be installed on the north and south sides of the Coyote Creek Channel to support the proposed pipe bridge. Construction commenced early October 2016 and is estimated to be completed by late 2017.

The pipeline relocation schedule will be Monday to Friday, between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Within the coming months it will be necessary to close a portion of South Firestone Boulevard, in the vicinity of the Coyote Creek Channel, for an extended period of time. Detour signs will be posted at least 14 days prior to the closure. Businesses along Firestone Boulevard will remain open.
